Horsing around

Willy the horse loves Jubal and allows him to play like he is racing him.

I don't know who looks more relaxed!

Making bread

Winnowing wheat... traded cantaloupes to a local farmer for wheat out of field. You have to pour it from bucket to bucket about 4 times for the box fan to blow away the chaff.

Milling the wheat... We built a milling table with plans that are free on Popular Mechanics website. Its good exercise and you appreciate what folks use to go thru to get their wheat ground.

Bread making

This is a expensive mill but a good one...  http://www.pleasanthillgrain.com/country_living_mill.aspx

Here is what its all about... in order for you to get the bread to rise, you need to add a vital gluten to the flour. The bread is light and delicious http://www.thenewhomemaker.com/wholewheatbread1

White flour bought in the store is missing bran, middlings, wheat germ and wheat germ oil...

Feeding bees

Bees didn't find much nectar this fall so their winter stores of honey aren't what they should be... We feed them sugar water in a bird bath to give them a hand.

Digging peanuts

We dig the peanuts and leave them out in the field to dry for a few days before we bring them in.

Peanuts are easily grown organically because the are underground where the bugs don't bother and fix their own nitrogen.
