Planted on July 6th

What you are seeing is squash, watermelon, cantaloup, cukes and sweetcorn.  This was a experiment  we were trying with the white plastic mulch and irrigation to see if it was possible to start a second crop in heat of summer...  we are very pleased with the results which lead us to believe 2 and 3 sequential plantings of produce a year are possible in Oklahoma.

Falling on hard times

Jed put bike training wheels on this ol' horse drawn 5 shovel and cultivates his garden...  He harvested a bushel and 1/2 of beautiful cukes for market last night

Planting fall garden

Planting potato, onion, turnip, beet, mustard, and lettuce so far

As you can see... a lot of holes to cut and carefully plant a few seeds in each hole.  The planting density has to be high to pay for the plastic and effort involved.

We must find a planter next year that both makes the hole in the plastic and inserts the seed in the ground...

Pleased with Medallion Squash

Besides being very productive they produce small squash that are very tender.

Loading up for Wednesday farmers market

As you can see we had a pretty good load of cantaloups, honeydews, squash, cukes, okra and egg plant.

The big melons on the right are honeydews...  they are ready when they feel fuzzy and start cracking around the stem from the last surge of sucrose they get when vine ripened.
