Planting fall garden

Planting potato, onion, turnip, beet, mustard, and lettuce so far

As you can see... a lot of holes to cut and carefully plant a few seeds in each hole.  The planting density has to be high to pay for the plastic and effort involved.

We must find a planter next year that both makes the hole in the plastic and inserts the seed in the ground...

Gardening on Crescent sand

Looks a little bit like Iowa doesn't it!  We put down white plastic to start our later crops...  it keeps the ground cooler by reflecting the heat.  Keeping the plants cooler is a big deal this year because we have had days of 106 heat and above.

Your looking at watermelons along side the sweetcorn

Planted pumpkins in with the corn and they have vined out in a big way

Here is another garden that was planted 2 weeks ago

Sweetcorn picking

All the ears that are too small for market, we pick for our own use...  Hitched up the horse this morning for a trip to the field.
