Mulching project

For the previous 2 years we have been laying plastic mulch by hand and the kids were less than enthusiastic about doing it again. Purchased the layer from these folks http://www.morgancountyseeds.com/mulchlayer.html The layer builds a raised bed about 4 inches and lays the plastic and irrigation tape nice and tight on the bed. These rows are 6 feet apart and will be filled with sweetcorn.  The plastic mulch will eliminate weeding and help maintain the moisture in the row.  Since we are in a drought, saving moisture is critical.

Planting potatoes and onions

A couple from Tulsa Oklahoma told us about planting potatoes on top of the ground and covering them with straw so we are giving it a try this year.  We also are planting onions with the potatoes hoping they will do well.
